WI Choir Tour 2007

The Arrival

29 June 2007

This is our first full day in Rome having arrived yesterday.  We were taken on a guided bus tour around the Eternal City upon our arrival and most people were conscious even after 26 hours in the air. We flew from Sydney to Hong Kong on Qantas and because of a late departure and head winds we arrived late and had only 20 minutes to catch our connecting flight. We still hadn't checked in so I had to insist that everyone be allowed on the flight, which they were, but not without considerable stress. Because of the shortage of time in transit my experience has been that there wouldn't be enough time for our luggage to get transferred to our Swiss Air flight, but it not only made it on that connecting fright, but on the one from Zurich to Rome as well. Everyone arrived in good order with all baggage intact for which I was grateful.

So far it has been a very positive and enjoyable experience with the group. Tonight is their first concert.  I can't believe where they are singing...
At the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore! It’s is an awesome place and I pray that they bring life to it.

Tomorrow morning we travel by bus to Florence.

The hotel accommodation is ok, but just.  I'm not too happy with cold showers, but at least I'm awake now.

Someone is taking videos of the group, so I hope it is usable with good footage.

I miss my dogs.

Regards,
David Johnston
